Early Birds
On some days, when the sun is still hidden behind the horizon and most people enjoy the warmth of their cosy beds, a few early birds gather at the foot of the Gerlitzen. Eagerly they hike up 540 meters in altitude to reach a widely visible meadow. During the process of unpacking their backpacks their eyes wander down to the lake and farther south to the Julian Alps in Italy and Slovenia. Taking in the scenery, feeling the fresh morning air and smelling the lush grass are important ingredients of this morning ritual. A few moments later everybody is ready and somehow focused. One after another they start running, the forward movement forcing their paragliders to rise in the air until the uplift is strong enough to pull them off the ground. That’s where the real fun begins.
